The eighth-generation BMW 3 Series sedan has surfaced ahead of its impending official debut, revealing a production-ready G50-generation prototype in high-performance M350 xDrive trim that adapts the Neue Klasse design philosophy to an updated internal combustion architecture.

The leaked rear imagery confirms BMW’s revised naming strategy, which drops the lowercase “i” suffix on petrol-powered models to reserve the letter exclusively for battery-electric variants. Sitting as the interim performance flagship beneath the upcoming M3, the M350 xDrive features signature quad exhaust tailpipes integrated into a sculpted lower bumper, horizontal LED taillights that closely mimic the electric i3, and flush door handles integrated into the beltline.
Under the bonnet, the M350 xDrive employs an updated 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six paired standard with a 48-volt integrated starter-generator. Total system output reaches 326 kW (443 PS) and 580 Nm of torque, marking an increase over the preceding M340i. Power is transferred via an eight-speed automatic transmission to an intelligent all-wheel-drive system. Through a future over-the-air (OTA) software update scheduled during 2027, the M350 will gain a dedicated “Drift Mode” function, allowing drivers to disengage front-axle drive and direct 100% of engine torque purely to the rear wheels.
The broader G50 lineup will rely primarily on 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engines with standard 48-volt mild-hybrid electrification, leaving the six-cylinder configuration exclusive to the M350 and the next-generation M3. Chassis hardware includes a double-joint spring strut front suspension and a five-link rear axle, with optional Adaptive M suspension and wheel sizes reaching up to 20 inches fitted with 245/35R20 front and 275/30R20 rear tyres.
Inside, the cabin layout mirrors BMW’s newest interior architecture, headlined by the Panoramic Vision display stretching 43.3 inches across the base of the windscreen, paired with a central 17.9-inch touchscreen display and an optional head-up display. Series production of the G50 BMW 3 Series is scheduled to commence later this year, with initial international showroom deliveries slated for 2027.
