Proton has officially launched the e.MAS 5 electric vehicle in Nepal, marking the electric hatchback’s second international export market following its debut in Singapore. Distributed by the brand’s authorised partner, Jagdamba Motors, the e.MAS 5 is the second electric vehicle introduced to the Nepalese market by the Malaysian automaker.
Variants and Pricing
Unlike the Singaporean market, which only receives a single variant, buyers in Nepal have access to both the Prime and Premium variants of the e.MAS 5. To celebrate the launch, Jagdamba Motors introduced a special introductory pricing campaign specifically for the first 100 early buyers.
- Proton e.MAS 5 Prime: Available at a special introductory price of 2.999 million Nepalese rupees (approximately RM80,802 to RM80,820). The standard retail price for this variant is 3.5 million Nepalese rupees (RM94,300).
- Proton e.MAS 5 Premium: Available at a special introductory price of 3.499 million Nepalese rupees (approximately RM94,274 to RM94,300). The standard retail price is set at 4.0 million Nepalese rupees (RM107,770).
Powertrain, Battery, and Range
Both variants feature a rear-wheel-drive electric motor setup but differ significantly in battery capacity and power output.
- Prime Variant: The entry-level model is equipped with a 30.12 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Its single rear motor produces 79 PS (58 kW) and 130 Nm of torque, which provides a WLTP-rated driving range of 225 km. For charging, it supports DC fast charging up to 53 kW, taking 21 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%.
- Premium Variant: The higher-spec model utilizes a larger 40.16 kWh LFP battery. It benefits from a more powerful motor outputting 116 PS (85 kW) and 150 Nm of torque, effectively extending its WLTP-rated range to 325 km. It also supports faster DC charging speeds up to 71 kW, achieving the same 30% to 80% charge time of 21 minutes.
Features and Warranty
Inside the cabin, the e.MAS 5 prioritizes modern connectivity and practicality for urban consumers.
- Both variants are equipped with a 14.6-inch full HD infotainment touchscreen that operates on the Atlas Auto system.
- The infotainment system includes support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Storage options include a 70-litre front trunk (frunk), a 375-litre rear boot that expands up to 1,320 litres, and a 28-litre under-seat storage compartment in the rear.
- Buyers in Nepal receive a 6-year unlimited mileage warranty for the vehicle, alongside a separate 8-year or 160,000 km warranty covering the high-voltage battery and components.
The launch of the e.MAS 5 was met with strong initial demand, as the national automaker reported receiving approximately 200 bookings on the very first day of its launch.
