McLaren Unveils Le Mans-Level Hypercar for Private Customers

We caught a glimpse of McLaren’s next-generation Le Mans–level hypercar at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed—and were completely stunned to learn it’s available to private customers.

Inspired by Racing Heritage

Inspired by the iconic liveries worn by McLaren during its Le Mans glory days, this track-focused hypercar marks the latest chapter in the brand’s return to endurance racing. Unveiled at Goodwood, it aligns neatly with McLaren’s broader vision to re‑enter the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar class by 2027—a bold plan that pays homage to their legendary 1995 Le Mans win.

A Customer-Ready Endurance Machine

This machine isn’t just a static showpiece. Engineered specifically for road‑registered customers, it merges racing pedigree with high-performance driving for those with the means—and the desire—to own a genuine endurance racer. It recalls Ferrari’s 499P Modificata and Aston Martin’s Valkyrie LM, but with McLaren’s distinctive take: buyers won’t just own the car—they’ll join a bespoke weekend-racing series. McLaren will handle transport logistics, pit crews, engineering support, and full coaching to ensure clients get the authentic circuit driving experience.

Advanced Engineering Collaboration

The name “Project Endurance” reflects the marque’s broader ambitions. McLaren has joined forces with Dallara to craft the carbon-fiber monocoque chassis—technology shared with BMW and Cadillac’s WEC entries and drawn from the company’s IndyCar programme.

A twin-turbo V6 powertrain channels performance to the rear wheels, emphasizing driving purity over hybrid complexity.

Backed by United Autosports for Competition and Customer Support

Underpinning this effort is McLaren’s collaboration with United Autosports. Together, they will field a works team—McLaren United AS—in the top Hypercar class racing cars, while simultaneously offering a limited production run of customer-spec cars. This marks a synergistic approach, leveraging racing technology and team expertise to support both competition and private participation.

McLaren’s Ambition and Statement

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, summarized the ambition clearly: “McLaren Racing’s return to the FIA World Endurance Championship marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for us… This customer programme will offer buyers an incredible chance to own an authentic race car and get closer to the action on‑track,” he said.

A New Era of Hypercar Ownership

What we saw at Goodwood left little room for doubt: this is no ordinary supercar—it’s a full‑blown Le Mans endurance machine, packaged for private owners. With McLaren’s heritage, cutting‑edge chassis and coach-built engine technology, and a seasoned team at its back, this program promises to blur the line between professional endurance racing and customer experience. And the fact it’s available to purchase? That alone sets it apart.
