Maybach SL 680: A Convertible Like No Other

The Mercedes‑Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series marks a bold entry into open-top luxury, blending the sporting flair of the SL lineup with the opulence of Maybach’s finest craftsmanship. Slotted above the AMG SL 63,

It retains the same potent 4.0‑litre twin-turbo V8—producing 577 hp and 800 Nm of torque—yet takes a distinctively more restrained, graceful approach to performance.

Performance with a Softer Touch

Despite sharing its engine with the AMG SL 63, the Monogram Series carries roughly 60 kg more weight, resulting in a 0–100 km/h time of 4.1 seconds compared to the AMG’s 3.6. The top speed sits around 262 km/h, though performance here is not about brute force but smoothness.

It handles winding roads effortlessly, yet always with a calm, composed demeanor that reflects its Maybach DNA.

Refinement is the Real Power

The biggest transformation lies in its refinement. The ride quality has been softened with reworked spring rates—25% less at the front and 22% at the rear—alongside active dampers and new engine mounts. Additional sound insulation and a bespoke “Maybach mode” enhance comfort further, creating what might be the smoothest SL ever made.

A Subtle, Quiet Power

Exhaust tuning plays a big role in the car’s character. In Comfort and Maybach modes, the V8 stays hushed, delivering serene acceleration. But flip it into Sport or Sport+ and it unleashes a deeper, more expressive sound. It’s a car capable of turning heads quietly—or loudly, if preferred.

Luxury in Design and Detail

The exterior styling makes an immediate impression. Chrome elements on the grille, rear diffuser, and windshield frame bring elegance. Two exclusive two-tone paint schemes—Red Ambience and White Ambience—showcase Maybach’s meticulous approach.

The optional “PixelPaint” hood features repeated Maybach logos, taking 14 hours to complete by robotic arm.

An Interior That Embodies Maybach

Inside, the White Ambience variant shines with white nappa leather, rose-gold vents, floral embroidery, and stainless-steel detailing. The soft-top itself is patterned with Maybach logos, while the latest MBUX infotainment system ensures digital luxury matches the craftsmanship. Even the seat adjustment buttons are engraved, making every detail count.

Limited, Exclusive, and Expensive

This is not a mass-market roadster. Prices start at around €250,000 in Europe, and each car is highly customizable. Only a few hundred units will be produced globally, making it as exclusive as it is elegant. Deliveries are expected to begin in Q3 2025, marking the arrival of Maybach’s most individualistic creation yet.

A New Chapter for Maybach

The SL 680 is the first two-seater in Maybach history, and also its first convertible. It signals a new direction—one where Maybach’s luxury extends into more niche, expressive vehicles. Less aggressive than AMG, more extravagant than standard Mercedes, the SL 680 stands in a class of its own.
