Taycan Sport Turismo: Porsche’s Electric Estate Unleashed

Porsche has introduced the updated Taycan Sport Turismo, enhancing its signature blend of sportiness and practicality. The most significant upgrade is the increase in battery capacity from 93 kWh to 105 kWh, allowing for greater range and faster charging. The vehicle now supports ultra-rapid charging at up to 320 kW, reducing the 10% to 80% charging time to just 18 minutes. Entry-level models can now achieve up to 404 miles of range (WLTP), while the Turbo S variant manages close to 375 miles. Despite the improvements, Porsche engineers have managed to reduce the car’s overall weight by around 15 kg.

Boosted Power and Driving Performance

Performance across the Taycan Sport Turismo lineup has been amplified. The GTS version now makes 597 bhp (previously 509 bhp), with an overboost feature delivering up to 691 bhp. The Turbo S takes it even further with a staggering 939 bhp. Porsche has also added a new “push-to-pass” function—available with the Sport Chrono pack—that delivers a 10-second burst of full power, offering an exhilarating performance boost on demand.

Driving Dynamics and Handling Precision

True to Porsche’s heritage, the Taycan Sport Turismo continues to impress with its driving feel. It features a low center of gravity, adaptive three-chamber air suspension, and fine-tuned chassis dynamics. Compared to the saloon, the Sport Turismo GTS variant exhibits 20% less body roll than the Turbo S, ensuring sharp cornering and balanced handling without sacrificing comfort. The Taycan maintains Porsche’s dynamic excellence, even in estate form.

Practicality and Luggage Space

Measuring 4,963 mm in length and 1,966 mm in width, the Sport Turismo offers a more versatile body style than its saloon sibling. It includes a 405-litre boot that expands to 1,171 litres when the rear seats are folded. However, it still lags behind traditional estate cars in outright cargo capacity due to a narrow load area and a raked tailgate. A front trunk (frunk) adds an extra 81 litres, suitable for storing smaller items like cables or day bags.

Interior Design and Cabin Experience

The cabin of the Taycan Sport Turismo showcases Porsche’s exceptional attention to detail, offering top-tier materials, clear ergonomics, and intuitive technology. Alcantara finishes in the GTS and an optional paddle-controlled regenerative braking system bring both luxury and functionality. Despite the low-slung seating position, the estate roofline gives rear passengers 36 mm more headroom than in the saloon, although legroom remains modest. Noise insulation is excellent, making for a quiet and composed ride.

Technology and User Experience

A host of high-tech features, including over-the-air software updates and customisable driver interfaces, enhance the Taycan’s modern EV character. The car also features optional rear-wheel steering and active roll stabilisation, further sharpening its dynamics. The regen braking levels can now be adjusted manually through paddles, bringing more driver control into the EV equation.

Pricing and Market Positioning

Pricing starts at £119,200 for the GTS and goes up to £163,200 for the Turbo S. The Sport Turismo carries a £1,000 premium over the Taycan saloon but offers increased versatility. It’s priced alongside high-performance petrol estates such as the Audi RS6 Avant and BMW M5 Touring, offering comparable power but a very different driving and ownership experience.

Value, Depreciation, and Alternatives

As with many high-end electric vehicles, depreciation is a key concern, particularly as battery technology evolves rapidly. Still, the Taycan Sport Turismo offers a unique proposition: the handling precision and premium build of a Porsche, with the day-to-day usability of an estate. It’s not the most spacious, but it is arguably the most dynamically impressive EV estate on the market.

Final Verdict

The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo masterfully blends high-performance driving with a practical wagon form. While it may not match traditional estates in cargo space, and lacks the visceral thrill of a V8, it offers a more refined, quicker, and sharper experience. For those who value precision, composure, and electric power with Porsche DNA, it remains unmatched in its class.
